Mobile money, both directions
Deriv with M-Pesa
Deriv publishes M-Pesa limits of 5 to 1,000 USD on deposits and the same range on withdrawals, both processed instantly. It is one of a dozen mobile money options in its payment table, and it is the one that makes the broker practical across East Africa.

The numbers that govern it
Five dollars in, a thousand at most, and the same range back out — that is the whole envelope, per transaction, and it is wider than most of Deriv's other mobile money options, several of which cap deposits at 150 USD.
Both directions are marked instant. That refers to Deriv's side; the mobile money network adds its own step, and a transfer sitting unconfirmed is usually waiting there rather than at the broker.
The limits are in USD while the phone is debited in local currency, so the exchange rate applied is the payment provider's. That difference is invisible on the broker's side and is worth checking against the rate you expected.

The two rules that cause most failures
The mobile money account must be in your own name, matching the trading account. Payments in someone else's name are rejected under anti-money-laundering rules, which is not negotiable at any regulated broker and is the reason a friend or an agent cannot fund your account for you.
Money returns the way it came. A deposit made by M-Pesa is withdrawn to M-Pesa, at least up to the amount deposited — the same rule that governs cards. Planning the exit before the entry avoids discovering this at the point you want the money.
Verification precedes the first withdrawal in every case. Completing identity and address checks at account opening rather than at the moment of withdrawal removes the most common source of delay.
If a transfer stalls
Check the amount against the limits first: a request above 1,000 USD or below 5 fails at the door, and splitting it into two transactions is the intended path rather than a workaround.
Then check the account balance against free margin. Open positions consume margin, so the withdrawable figure can be well below the balance shown.
If it is neither, the record matters: keep the M-Pesa confirmation message and the transaction reference, raise it in writing with Deriv, and escalate to the regulator of the entity named in your client agreement if it is not resolved. Nobody legitimate ever asks for an additional payment to release a stuck withdrawal — that is the recovery scam our scams page describes.
A local warning worth stating plainly
Where mobile money is the main funding route, there are people offering to deposit into your Deriv account for you, to trade it for you, or to sell a bot that will. Sending money to an individual's number is not a broker deposit, and there is no recovery from it.
The account must be opened, verified, funded and traded by the person who owns it. Every route around that removes the protection the licence provides — and the licence is the only protection there is.
Questions people ask
What is the minimum Deriv deposit with M-Pesa?
Five US dollars, with a maximum of 1,000 per transaction. Withdrawals use the same 5 to 1,000 range, and both directions are processed instantly on Deriv's side.
How long does an M-Pesa withdrawal from Deriv take?
Deriv marks M-Pesa withdrawals instant. The mobile money network adds its own processing, so a transfer still pending is usually waiting there rather than at the broker.
Can someone else deposit to my Deriv account by M-Pesa?
No. The paying account must be in the same name as the trading account — third-party payments are refused under anti-money-laundering rules at every regulated broker.
Can I deposit with M-Pesa and withdraw to a bank?
Generally not, at least up to the deposited amount: funds return by the route they arrived. Plan the withdrawal method before choosing the deposit method.
Which other mobile money options does Deriv support?
Airtel, MTN, Equitel, Tigo, Vodacom, Vodafone, Orange Money and Moov Africa among others, most with deposit caps of 150 USD rather than M-Pesa's 1,000.
