Logging in to Deriv MT5
The reason a Deriv MT5 login fails is almost always the same: the MT5 password is not the Deriv account password. Deriv asks you to create a separate one when you add your first MT5 account, and it is then used for all your Deriv MT5 accounts — alongside a login number and a server name the terminal also needs.

What the terminal is asking for
Three things, and only one of them comes from your Deriv website login. The login number identifies the trading account, the server name identifies which of Deriv's servers it lives on, and the password is the MT5 password you created when adding the account — Deriv's own instructions describe setting it as a separate step, to be used for all your Deriv MT5 accounts.
That is the fork this page exists for: your Deriv account password opens deriv.com and does nothing in MetaTrader. Entering it in the terminal produces an authorisation failure with no explanation of why.
The login number and server appear in your Deriv dashboard beside the MT5 account, and in the email Deriv sends when the account is created. Demo and live accounts sit on different servers with similar names, which is the second most common reason a correct password is rejected.
Deriv cTrader works the other way round and is worth knowing about for contrast: it uses your main Deriv email and password, with no separate trading password at all. The extra credential is MetaTrader's convention rather than the broker's.
The sequence that works
Create or log in to a Deriv account, add the MT5 account type you want from the dashboard, and set the MT5 password when prompted. Deriv then shows the login number and server for that account.
Install MetaTrader 5 from MetaQuotes or from the official app stores — the publisher must read MetaQuotes Software Corp. — open it, choose “Login to Trade Account”, search for the Deriv server by the exact name shown in your dashboard, and enter the login number and MT5 password.
If it still refuses: check you picked the demo server for a demo account, that the login number is the MT5 one rather than your Deriv account ID, and reset the MT5 password from the dashboard rather than the website password.
The second password worth knowing about
MetaTrader accounts carry an investor password as well as the master one. It opens the account read-only: charts and history are visible, trading is not.
That is the password to hand over if anyone asks to “see your account” — a signal seller, an account manager, a mentor. Anyone insisting on the master password is asking for the ability to trade your money, which is one of the patterns in our scam catalogue.
