Forex trading apps in Kenya

App ratings are counted per country, and almost every list of “best trading apps in Kenya” quotes a global number instead. Read in the Kenyan App Store, the picture changes: RoboForex has no listing at all, Tickmill and Fortrade are absent too, several apps have no Kenyan ratings, and one broker takes M-Pesa.

The nine apps, read from the Kenyan stores

The third column is the Kenyan App Store specifically — the same app can hold four stars in one country and none in another, because ratings are averaged per storefront. Google Play does not split ratings by country, so that column is global and says so.

App Store figures read per country storefront through Apple's own lookup, and Google Play from its listing pages, on 24 August 2026. Play ratings are not split by country, so that column is global. Payment methods come from each broker's own pages.

Why the rating you were shown is probably the wrong one

Apple averages ratings per country storefront. The same Deriv app is ★4.45 from 31 ratings in Kenya and ★3.52 from 54 in Nigeria; LiteFinance is ★4.63 from 123 ratings in the storefront where it does best and has none at all in Kenya. Neither figure is wrong — they measure different sets of people.

Which means a comparison page quoting one number for an app is quoting whichever storefront it happened to read, usually the US one. For a Kenyan reader that is the least relevant of all: several of these brokers are not in the US store to begin with.

Google Play works the other way: its rating is aggregated across countries, so the number is the same wherever you read it. That is why the table above keeps the two columns apart instead of averaging them into a single score.

Three apps are not in the Kenyan store at all

RoboForex publishes its app as MobileTrader and lists it in the UK, South African, UAE and Singapore storefronts — not the Kenyan one. Tickmill Trader appears in South Africa, the UAE and Nigeria; Fortrade Pro in the UK, the UAE and Nigeria. In the Kenyan App Store, none of the three exists.

That is a different statement from “the broker has no app”, and the distinction matters: an Android user in Kenya can install all three from Google Play, where they are listed globally. The gap is Apple-side and country-specific.

It also travels with the account. If your phone's Apple ID is registered in Kenya, an app absent from that storefront cannot be installed on it without changing the account's country, which is not something to discover after funding an account.

Most of these apps are MetaTrader wearing a badge

Seven of the nine brokers here run MetaTrader 4 or 5, and MetaQuotes publishes both apps itself: MT5 holds ★4.79 from 4,757 ratings in the Kenyan store and MT4 ★4.74 from 1,355 — far more Kenyan ratings than any broker's own app has collected.

So the practical question is not which broker app is best but whether you will use the broker's own interface or MetaTrader. Both connect to the same account; the broker app usually handles deposits and verification, and MetaTrader handles charts, orders and automated strategies.

cTrader is the third option, published by cTrader Ltd and rated ★4.76 from 113 Kenyan ratings. Our page on MetaTrader brokers covers which broker runs which platform.

The app is not the account: M-Pesa and the CMA licence

Whatever the app looks like, the two Kenyan questions are answered outside it. Of the nine brokers, only Deriv publishes M-Pesa — 5 to 1,000 US dollars per transaction each way, marked instant — and the rest route you to cards, bank transfers or e-wallets, with the conversion and the cross-border card rules that implies.

And none of the nine holds a licence from Kenya's Capital Markets Authority. The CMA's register listed 16 licensed online forex brokers when we checked, and no app store rating changes which regulator you would complain to. Our Kenya page works through what that licence does and does not buy.

A five-star app attached to an entity registered in St Vincent is still an account in St Vincent. The rating measures the software; the client agreement measures everything else.

What actually matters on a phone

Whether the broker's app handles verification and deposits, since that is where a phone-only trader spends most of their non-trading time. Uploading an ID and funding by mobile money from the same device is the difference between a five-minute setup and a week of emails.

Whether it shows free margin rather than only balance — the figure that decides whether a withdrawal will go through and whether a position survives.

And whether it can place a stop at the same time as the order. An app that opens positions easily and prices risk clumsily is not a convenience.

Questions people ask

Which forex app is best in Kenya?

By Kenyan store ratings, MetaTrader 5 leads with ★4.79 from 4,757 ratings — and it is published by MetaQuotes, not a broker. Among broker apps in the Kenyan storefront, FxPro holds ★4.56 from 438 ratings and Deriv ★4.45 from 31. Ratings measure the software, not the broker's terms.

Why can't I find some brokers' apps in the Kenyan App Store?

Because they are not published there. RoboForex, Tickmill and Fortrade list their iOS apps in other storefronts — the UK, South Africa, the UAE, Nigeria — but not Kenya. All three are on Google Play, which is not split by country.

Which trading app accepts M-Pesa?

Of the nine brokers we track, only Deriv publishes M-Pesa: 5 to 1,000 USD per transaction in each direction, marked instant both ways. Payment methods belong to the broker rather than the app, so the same rails apply on iOS, Android and the website.

Are these apps licensed in Kenya?

No. None of the nine brokers holds a licence from the Capital Markets Authority, which had 16 licensed online forex brokers on its register when we checked. An app store listing is not a licence and says nothing about it.

Do I need the broker's app, or MetaTrader?

Usually both do one job well. The broker's own app handles registration, verification and deposits; MetaTrader or cTrader handles charts, orders and automated strategies on the same account. Seven of the nine brokers here run MetaTrader.

The country page is forex trading in Kenya, the wider app comparison is forex trading apps, and platform coverage is on MetaTrader brokers.
